Long sought Will turns up....

Alan Smith in Canada has been following up a lead we have known about for several years. The 1992 version of the IGI included references to a will that mentioned John Sager, Mary Sager, Susan Sager and Thomas Sager -  at Toft Monks, Norfolk dated 30 Mar 1810. Despite some searching we could find no reference to the will in the UK. Recently, Alan contacted the Church of Latter Day Saints and received a copy of their original record of the event. The first document recieved was a report addressed to the Church of Latter Day Saints dated 5 Dec 1939! This reported the existance of a will for a Thomas Sager dated Mar 1810. He was married to Mary and had children Thomas, Susan, John and Mary. The will appears to have been proved in the Norwich Consistary Court.

Some weeks later, Alan recieved a copy of the original will which gave further information.  This shows that the Thomas who died in 1810 had six children, as shown in the transcription:

'This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Sagor of Toft Monks in the County of Norfolk, Yeoman made this seventeenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and (six) freely 1 do give and bequest unto
my Son Thomas Sagor and my Daughters Lucy Horns? And Susan Dyer the sum of thirtysix pounds (avowed ?) to be paid to them for their respective uses as soon as conveniently may be next after my decease And (subject the payment of my just debts funeral expenses, the charges of proving this my will, and other incidental expenses which 1 desire may be fully paid) I give and bequeath all the rest residues and remainder of my Monies securities for Monies Furniture and personal Estate and Effects whatsoever unto my six children the said Thomas, Lucy and Susan and John Sagor Jeremiah Sagor and Mary Wigg equally to be divided amongst them share and share alike to and for their own
respective uses And 1 nominate and appoint William Grimmor of Toft Monks aforesaid, Farmer sole Executor of this my Will hereby revoking all former Wills by me made and 1 do declare this only to be my last Will and Testament.

In Witness whereof 1 have hereunto set my hand and Seal the day and year first above written.
The mark of the said  Thomas (8?) Sagor (the Testator) TS

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Thomas Sagor the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in presence at his request and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto ...'

This will seems to be an important find for Alan Smith and Ron Seago, as it suggests family links for the SJ family tree dating back two further generations - back to the turn of the 17th century.  Both Alan and Ron willbe seeking further clues and evidence to support the suggested family links.

The Groups' new web site has attracted a number of new contacts since early November..........

Robert Seago in Essex, England, E-mailed us about his family roots. Although he is using an Acorn Risc PC platform, he was able to attach a Gedcom file, which allowed us to identify a number of records in our indexes, which relate to his family. We await further contact to confirm other family links.

Phillip Vickers in Yorkshire sent information about his mother's side of his family. His mother being Minnie Seago, born 1925. We were able to establish links to the Groups' ED family tree that goes back to a William Seago born in 1814. A few days later, we had a telephone call from a Peter Seago (Phillip's cousin) who was also quite interested in the information provided by the Group.

Adrianna Sago from Argentina sent an E-mail message telling us that her father came from Lebanon about 1890, but his name was then Saieg and seems to have been 'anglicised'. It is unlikely that there are any links to Seago's in the UK.

Seagoe Hotel.......  Just browsing on the WWW and came across the Seagoe Hotel, in Upper Church Lane, Portadown, County Armarh, Northern Ireland. This is the civil parish of Seagoe, County Amargh. May be ideal place to stay if you wish to explore this area of Northern Ireland. We would like to find out how the parish name came to be Seagoe..... any ideas?

Seago's found listed in War Graves Commission's lists....

Ron Seago recently sent details of Seagos who have memorials or graves resulting from their death in the two great wars. These included the following names: Alfred Seago died 23.12.1915, Alfred James Seago died 28.7.1946, C G Seago died 3.11.1918, Charles Walter Seago died 22.12.1917, Christopher Seago died 26.3.1917 and George William Seago died 6.10.1918.
